Black Hole of Snow Canyon (Spring 2001)

In Snow Canyon I discovered a secret slot canyon that requires a difficult down scramble and several rappels to complete. I call it the Black Hole because from the top everything funnels down into it with redrock, but at the bottom all of the rock turns black and dark.

Gooseberry Mesa (Spring 2001)

Mike Graves and I drove east an hour to do the most technically challenging mountain bike riding in the area--Gooseberry Mesa. The views up here are in all directions, and there is a sea of white slickrock for miles. The quick ups and downs and trees and corners make things interesting and challenging.

I posed by this bike for a photo, but Mike did a handstand next to the cliff's edge!

Coyote Gulch (May 2000)

I took Eldon Griffin down Coyote Gulch in May 2000. This is one of my all-time favorite places to visit. We dayhiked through the gulch and also hiked Peekaboo, Spooky, and Brimstone. These photos were in my folder and some if not all may have been taken by Eldon.

Grosevnor Arch & Snake Gulch (Apr 2000)

A drive and car camp was the even to go out and explore the Paria Canyon area. I drove up the Cottonwood Road and hiked to this arch. I also hiked in a little slot out there. On the way home I stopped off on the Arizona Strip in Snake Gulch for a dayhike down and back to some interesting petroglyphs and pictographs. Snake Gulch eventually drains into Kanab Creek. I ran into a solo backpacker carrying a gallon jug of water who was on his way down Snake, down Kanab, and down the Colorado River to Havasu Canyon, where he was going to hike out. I assume he made it.

Spring Break 2000

Our first year living in Southern Utah, we took out the trailer and drove and camped in Zion, Kodachrome, and Calf Creek Falls.
